The Ambience Affair: Fragile Things

ambienceaffair From Ireland, this duo (Jamie Clarke and Marc Gallagher) has written this really timely little four track EP, named Fragile Things. It’s just a guitar and a drum and some bits of this and that and it’s folksy and a bit jangly in all the right, reminiscent ways and not the annoying ways. And it rings a bit of James to me, and a little whiff of some Scottish music I love, (hoping that’s not some sort of national affront, says the ‘merican here!). Because there’s something Celtic and Euro in the clicks of percussion that I’m not hearing in music on this side of the pond and the accents of course belie the origins. And also some of what I’ve heard in An Horse is here as well, in the structure of the songs. And it’s happy/sad/angry all at the same time and it makes me want to dance and cry and think.

But you know all this muttering of what it sounds like is meaningless, and useless because honestly, just fucking listen to it for yourselves right here, all of it, streaming for your pleasure at Indiecater Records. Talking about influences and sound alikes gets to be a way for us music heads to show off who we’ve been listening to and how much we can remember and all that nonsense.  And that’s not what’s really important about making music and listening to music and hearing music, is it? And so go and pay up the small fee and purchase the thing and support these fine men and their creation. And dig a bit in your pocket and support independent music today, eh?

Fragile Things mp3 ….. The Ambience Affair go buy this now! It’s fresh, new and really worth the 2.50 euros/$3.26 for the digital download!

and, I’m totally loving this first track on the EP…. just look at this! Maybe it’s because I saw this at 2:00 a.m., but does it not kinda freak you out!?! It’s brilliant!

and in the band’s own words:
Jamie gave us a bio for the band and an account of how the EP was made.
“The Ambience Affair are a two-piece from Meath/Dublin who combine looped vocals & guitars together with driving rhythms to create songs that are both captivating and original. The EP ‘Fragile Things’ was recorded in 3 days in Dublin and was the band’s first ever experience recording. They’ve been together 10 months after Jamie met Marc in the music shop Jamie had just started working in. Jamie was looking for a drummer previous to this and Marc came to one of his solo gigs and decided there was enough there to start the band.
(Now on to first person)
The EP itself is something we’re both really proud of. I can still put it on the stereo and enjoy it so either I’m really egotistical or it’s not a bad collection of songs. The reviews we received for it have been really great. The general consensus has been ‘A promising start’, and that’s a line we’re really comfortable with. We feel we’re still such a young band and are learning about so much everyday. Live, I think there may be one gig so far where I haven’t fucked up a loop or the song in some way. The mistakes are almost part of who we are and there’s a couple we left in on the EP that happened naturally. We’re really excited about the future and hope that the EP is a little taster of what’s to come.
-Jamie”
